MyRoutine app, to reduce kids’ doctor visit anxiety

Visiting the doctor might be a daunting experience for kids who aren’t yet used to the process, especially those with a developmental delay.

To address this concern, the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee created an iPad app, My Routine, to show children what a doctor’s office visit generally looks like as well as other daily routines.

Research Reveals Ways to Help Patients with Autism Improve Social Skills

Advances in treatments for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) will be the focus of several presentations at the American Psychological Association’s 121st Annual Convention. About 1 in 50 school-age children in the United States has some form of autism, according to the National Institutes of Mental Health. Leading experts in the diagnoses and treatment of autism will present research findings that include new ways to identify ASD, new approaches for teaching social skills, and how mobile technology can help autistic children communicate.

FTC's Second Kids' App Report Finds Little Progress in Addressing Privacy Concerns Surrounding Mobile Applications for Children

Kids' Data Still Collected, Shared without Parents' Knowledge, Consent.

The Federal Trade Commission issued a new staff report examining the privacy disclosures and practices of apps offered for children in the Google Play and Apple App stores.  The report details the results of the FTC’s second survey of kids’ mobile apps.

Investigadores de la Universidad de Granada (UGR) han desarrollado una aplicación para dispositivos móviles que permite mejorar las competencias básicas, como el lenguaje, conocimiento del entorno, autonomía y habilidades sociales, de niños con Trastorno de Espectro Autista y con síndrome de Down.

Esta aplicación, denominada Picaa y disponible en el App Store de forma gratuita, puede utilizarse en los dispositivos electrónicos iPhone, iPad y iPod touch.
